“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.” —Albert Einstein
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” —John Dewey
“The content of a book holds the power of education and it is with this power that we can shape our future and change lives.” —Malala Yousafzai
Dwijendralal College is the corporeal embodiment of the vision of so many great visionaries who along with the bounty of the good thinking citizens of Krishnagar, more than five decades ago dreamt to lay the foundation for higher learning, especially in the fields of Commerce and Accounting, for students coming from the District town itself and the distant areas of Nadia and adjacent districts as well, where such opportunities had not been available in the past as well as in the present times. The college, first and foremost, offers a platform to them who, despite the dominating frowns of Partition and its topsyturving socioeconomic reality, dare to dream big with wings of aspiration and ambition, empowered by proper education. Committed to liberate learning and the learners as well, from the bias of caste, creed, gender, religion and economic status, Dwijendralal college strives to emerge as one of the leading academic institutions in the region where knowledge and skill complement each other and competence leads to confidence among the learners, the primary beneficiaries. Special care has also been taken for female learners as women, even in this second decade of the 21st century, do not have an equal share of value and voice in our gendered society. The target has been set to enrich students intellectually, culturally, ethically and functionally so that the society around is transformed into a knowledge based one. Accordingly, our objectives accommodate five major components which in an integrated way, prepare the perspectives for the present as well as future:
To fulfill this objective many developmental activities were initiated during the preceding years and keeping pace with the changing trends of education, the college has sincerely worked for the confirmation of planned goals, specifications and requirements, and is continuously progressing to adopt the present paradigm shift of the traditional education system to the output/application based teaching and learning one. It is responding to this very tune that yesterday’s Commerce College shifted its paradigm and emerged as Today’s Dwijendralal College, accommodating learners of both in Arts and Commerce Streams,, opening further access to Master Degree Courses too, both in Regular and in Distance Learning Mode.
On behalf of the Management, I am specially thankful to all the contributors, educationist, policy makers, social activists, administrators, Officers and authorities of Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal, to D.P.I. office, Bikash Bhavan and to Kalyani University, as well as to the tireless labour and care of our Teaching faculties, Non teaching Staff member, alumni associates and of course the learners who in their daily activities, stick to discipline and maintain values. The Government has been gracious enough in enriching our departments through fresh recruits and allocating funds whenever there has been a justified requirement. Affiliation, Rules, regulations, guidance and support provided from University of Kalyani, UGC , NAAC authorities and initiatives promoting research by other funding agencies, also need to be duly acknowledged here.
The college, binding together its rich history and heritage on one hand and its lush green eco-friendly campus and sportive spirit on the other, is determined to stand by the new generation and to build a 'brave new world', evergreen and free of all sorts of pollution, where only love, fraternity, peace and harmony will rule. Hence it seeks from everybody concerned a profound responsibility to be always reverent and respectful to that undying dream, that pulsating, luminous core of faith impeccably encapsulated in the Socratic conceptualization of education as ‘enkindling a flame’- that leads to analysis, experimentation, examination and emergence which consist of the core of daily deliverance.
The final note is only this: let us not consider life as a mere battle for acquiring knowledge, but also an initiative to share and apply knowledge for the betterment of one and all. We, each and everyone, indeed feel delighted to be a part of this institution, which is continuously and actively engaged in creation, application & sharing of knowledge, values and discipline, which with its inherent heritage, teaches all the members of its ‘parivar’, old and new, to revere every person’s dignity with respect, regards, trust, joy, empathy and cooperation, reflected in matching words and actions. If that is ensured, the selfless teamwork, dedication and inherent positivity shared by all, definitely will lead the institution to a brighter tomorrow.
